I have the old hard drive and clone in storage, so if there is a way to look up the key given the working install Id like that. This morning it booted up fine, and I saw my desktop, etc., so I shut it down and drove to work. Now Office wants a Product Key I have my old MBP with me; is there a way I can pull the product key off the old machine so I can activate the new one Otherwise I will do nothing useful today until I get home. Then copy over the MS folder in the libraryapplication support folder and see if that fixes the issue for you.
Product Key For Microsoft Office 2011 Install Id LikeThat said, I took a quick look and didnt see anything promising. I looked at the plist files in the app packages and didnt see it, but I didnt look that hard. Also, the app support folder didnt seem to have what youre looking for either. EDIT and then I think I found it or probably where it may be: Usersaccountlibraryapplication supportpreferencescom.microsoft.office.plist Maybe thats what youre looking for It may be different than my plist, because Ive got an enterprisevlk version. I dont think its stored in plaintext anywhere, because I just Spotlighted the first 5 characters of the key, and it doesnt show up anywhere. Ive used this information in the past to reset the product key without doing a complete uninstallreinstall. Nice. Good to know. I probably wont run into that, since I only deal with Mac Office for enterprise deployment, rather than on retail installs. According to MS, the file can be located in the LibraryPreferences folder at HD level (not in the Home Directory). It looks like another day with reduced productivity until I get home this evening. Product Key For Microsoft Office 2011 Serial NumberMAC AddressMost Pro apps will even continue to work if you just do a full clone from one HD to another (now moving into another machine can be a problem since some apps use the Apple serial numberMAC address as part of the licensing). My entire Mac deployment setup uses HD cloning at the core and Ive never had the office licensing reset. Hmm. Well its asking for my product key again, so I must have done something to piss it off I have Office installed in my VM, so Im limping along for the rest of the day, but its a PITA, and I have to ask someone else here the office to PDF the final output for me. Grrrr. Maybe it did this because I was running office apps during the cloning process Hard to say, there were no errors. Anyways I had my serial handy so Ill be telling the help desk guys that they need to locate the key before cloning a users system. Boots up fine and everything appears to be working OK, except for MS Office 2011. Tried copying over plist file as matyas.ka suggested but it didnt work for me. If I read the previous post correctly, copy the entire file. Lastly make sure the permissions on the file are consistent with the rest of the folder. I used SuperDuper to clone then on the new disk I get asked to register the product key. I tried copying plists from the Time Machine backup I also made.
